Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Investment Promotion
USAID is supporting comprehensive and quantitative analysis of energy efficiency opportunities to guide future project investments in strategic sectors. Energy efficiency/renewable energy projects are being structured and promoted in ceramic, glass, and brick manufacturing; agro-industrial, food and beverage; metal-mechanic; and textile subsectors, in alliance with national businesses and the financial sector; and through the Project Preparation Facility.
- 34,157 metric tons of CO2 equivalent reduced as of March 2016, decreasing the quantity of greenhouse gas emissions.
- Cleaner energy solutions developed for the brick and ceramic sector in the departments of Antioquia, Boyacá, Caldas, and Cordoba.
- Development of the Clean Energy Project Preparation Facility (PPF): technical and financial assistance mechanism to promote and enable private sector investment in concrete EE/RE projects. The PPF is working with industries such as paper & pulp, steel, metallurgical, tetile, chemical, agroindustrial and food & beverage plants, as well as major retail chains in 8 cities. Via the PPF, CCEP and UPME have been assisting the Colombian private sector in engineering designs and financial structuring of EE/RE projects worth over USD $125M with the potential of avoiding over 200,000 tons of CO2 emissions per year.
